‘Re-Orientations’ is an artistic plea for a continuation of the transcultural exchange between East and West, South and North, extending beyond ethnic, religious and national boundaries. It is also a critical examination of how we deal with our cultural heritage. The approximately 170 drawings, watercolours, paintings and photographs, metal, ceramic and glass objects as well as textiles, videos, installations and an animated film are drawn mainly from European collections, and have been brought together to set up a unique dialogue.

Sat, June 10, 10:00 – 18:00
Sun, June 11, 10:00 – 18:00

The exhibition at the Kunsthaus presents an important group of Surrealist objects by Giacometti, including the ‘Boule suspendue’, a key work. A small but select group of paintings by Dalí reminds the visitor of the phantasmagorical visual world for which he is still famous today. Important sketches by Giacometti and Dalí – including a number from the former’s rarely shown ‘carnets’ (sketchbooks) – as well as documents and photographs complement the exhibition, making it a uniquely immersive experience of the creative world of Parisian Surrealism in the early 1930s.

Screening of 'DURCHS HÖLLENTOR INS PARADIES' with Bice Curiger
Screening of 'DURCHS HÖLLENTOR INS PARADIES' with Bice Curiger (Director Fondation Vincent van Gogh and former curator Kunsthaus Zürich).

'DURCHS HÖLLENTOR INS PARADIES' tells the story of the Kunsthaus Zürich, from its opening in 1910 to the present day. Countless exciting, sometimes dramatic, sometimes amusing and bizarre episodes mark the history of the Kunsthaus. Among them are public disputes, such as the debate about the Emil G. Bührle Collection. Legendary exhibitions have contributed to the museum's international reputation, including the world's first museum exhibition of Picasso in 1932. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion.
Sun, June 11, 11:00 – 13:00 | DE
