Art Walks | Art Walk with Olena Iegorova
THE DARK SIDE OF THE DIGITAL The tour is an exploration of the blurred lines dividing real and digital universes we find ourselves balancing between. Nowadays, such phenomena as digital entropy, advancing AI algorythms, cryptomarket and extended reality are the new normal spreading influence in all spheres of our existence, including art. Technologies meant to serve society raise growing concerns such as information security and privacy issues, screen-time and digital addiction, epidemics of loneliness and anxiety, grey areas in legal systems etc. Being a reflection of the society, art has changed in an attempt to redefine itself in this modern realm. We will trace the ways in which challenges of Digital Era inspired artists to re-think what makes us human and offer new models of co-existing in this ever-evolving multidimensional metaspace. We start with “and they say it’s true” installation by Nora Turato, recently presented by Kunsthaus Digilab, proceed to group show “Vertrauen” (“Trust”) in Helmhaus and complete our journey with “Maximum Security Society” exhibition by Julia Scher in Kunsthalle Zurich. Once again, Zurich Art Weekend is excited to present its Art Walks on the occasion of Zurich Art Nov! 2022. Get to know Zurich’s thriving art scene following the footsteps of young curators and art mediators. You will visit selected art venues and discover upcoming and established artists through a two hours walk. Starting point: Kunsthaus Zürich, Chipperfield-Buidling (new) in front of the Helpdesk Guide: Olena Iegorova Note: Participants will need a public transportation ticket (from CHF 3.10) Olena Iegorova is an independent curator, educator and cultural practitioner. After establishing her art and education center in Odessa, Ukraine, she organised multiple public art projects, including city-scale street art festivals, charity fairs and exhibitions in Ukraine, Qatar and Switzerland since 2014. The main focus of her practice is lying on the intersection of art and education, with an emphasis on social change. Olena is a graduate of MAS Programme in Curating at Zurich University of the Arts and is currently a research team member at Continuing Education Centre (ZHdK). She is also a curatorial board member of OnCurating Project Space.

Art Walks | Art Walk with Elisa Pezza
BEYOND THE EXHIBITION From Carl Andre to younger international artists, we will explore together four galleries which occupy an interesting space in the Zürich's art scene. We will start our tour at Gallery Weiss Falk which since 2016 presents young and upcoming Swiss and international artists with outstanding exhibitions. Next, we will move towards the most fluorescent street in the Zürich’s art scene: Rämistrasse, where the viewers would be introduced to a solo exhibition of the New Yorker painter Amy Feldeman at Galerie Eva Presenhuber. Thirdly, we will move to visit one of the newest gallery in the city: Galerie Tschudi where the visitors would have the possibility to discover the first group show in the new space with well-esablished artists such as Carl Andre and Petra Wunderlich. The tour would conclude at the last floor of a very unique building with a solo exhibition by Shai Azoulay at Sommer Salon. Once again, Zurich Art Weekend is excited to present its Art Walks on the occasion of Zurich Art Nov! 2022. Get to know Zurich’s thriving art scene following the footsteps of young curators and art mediators. Starting point: Weiss Falk, Sonneggstrasse 82, 8006 Zürich Guide: Elisa Pezza Elisa (b. 1998, Rovereto IT) lives and works in Zurich. Elisa Pezza’s research focuses on the affirmation of the curatorial practice as an artistic practice. In her works, curatorial characteristics are questioned and investigated through a critical approach and an artistic research, which she has developed thanks to her studies in Fine Arts at the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano and that continues to enhance through her Master in Curatorial Studies at the ZHdK in Zurich. Her interest in performance had led Elisa to undertake a semester at the Angewandte in Vienna, where she participated at the 2020 SoHo Festival and contributed in the collaborative exhibition at Tonspur_Passage in the MuseumsQuartier titled Private Dots and Public Clouds curated by Georg Weckwerth. However, her main interest remains curatorial practice, which she has cultivated working as gallery assistant at Galleria Fonti in Naples and as curatorial assistant at Centrale Fies.

This conversation between artists Renée Green and Ima-Abasi Okon provides insights into the artistic practice and gives background information to the exhibition Renée Green. Inevitable Distances. Okon and Green share an interest in exploring language in all its facets. Among other activities, their research and practice trace language’s implicit and explicit potentials to establish and sustain asymmetrical power relations, construct, and distribute knowledge, but also to abstract, classify, complicate, elucidate and (de)valorise the human condition.

2022. ZHdK Zurich University of the Arts, Toni-Areal | Talk "The Arts of Immersion: New Experiences between Art, Design and Technology" & Visit of the Immersive Arts Space
Register for free via the link. The history and practices of “immersion” in the arts has long focused on the senses being transformed through new technologies. From the experiments of DADA and the Bauhaus in Europe in the early part of the 20th century to the creation of wrap around projected images and new audio-visual environments in the 1960s till today, we increasingly encounter artistic works that serve as what musician Brian Eno called “triggers for experience”. This talk will give a broad and accessible overview of this phenomenon that we call immersion. It will highlight historical and contemporary artistic and design works that address critical questions: What happens to our sense of self and our body in new immersive technological environments? Do new kinds of “senses” emerge and what are they? What is immersion for and how could it help us address the burning issues of our present and future? The talk will also discuss the ongoing work of the Immersive Arts Space at the ZHdK – an innovative university-wide art/tech lab that serves as a research, teaching and production platform. As part of Zurich Art Nov! and in continuation of the talk, the Immersive Arts Space at the ZHdK will be running a large-scale audio-visual installation entitled "...just voices..." that explores how surveillance changes the watcher/ listener. Prof. Dr. Christopher Salter (USA/CH) is an artist, Professor of Immersive Arts and Director of the Immersive Arts Space, ZHdK. He is also Professor Emeritus, Design and Computation Arts at Concordia University in Montreal and from 2014-2022, was Co-Director of the Hexagram network for Research-Creation in Media Arts and Technology, also in Montreal. His artistic work has been seen at exhibitions and festivals internationally such as the Venice Biennale, the Barbican Centre, the Berliner Festspiele/Martin Gropius Bau, Vitra Design Museum, ZKM, the National Art Museum of China, and the Musée d’art Contemporain Montreal, among many others. He is the author of the books Entangled (2010), Alien Agency (2015) and Sensing Machines (2022), all published by the MIT Press.

ZHdK Zurich University of the Arts, Toni-Areal | Open House: Immersive Arts Space
The Immersive Arts Space at the ZHdK will be showing a large-scale audio-visual installation "...just voices..." that explores how surveillance changes the watcher/ listener. While we are increasingly aware of being observed by cameras and microphones, we are less conscious of how these technologies subtly affect our human experience of watching and listening to others. Using a combination of sophisticated audio-visual projection and tracking systems, "...just voices..." exposes the increasing paranoia of a society in which observing, and listening is being radically transformed by technology.

WE ARE AIA I AWARENESS IN ART | Treasure hunt: Offshore Tour Operator
The “Offshore Tour Operator” is a psycho-geographic GPS prototype that guides you through the 800,000 addresses of the ICIJ's Offshore Leaks database. The walks bring the participants to search for the physical traces of offshore banking within the architecture of various neighbourhoods of the city of Zurich. Thus, the walks transform into a real hunt for shell companies, trust firms, domiciliation agencies and shadow finance offices and agents. Participants are invited to document their investigations by any means possible (photograph, video, radio interception, wifi spoofing, etc.). At the end of each walk, a collective discussion offers a platform to participants to share their experiences and documents, in order to shape collectively an up to date image of finance that challenges the very notion of offshore. The Offshore tour Operator is a small backpack containing a miniature computer and a GPS antenna. The GPS will guide you to the Offshore leaks and panama papers shell company physical addresses. A few thing you can bring to make the tour friendly : - A pair of headphones (mini-jack) to listen to the instructions, who are given in audio. - A compass if you have one. - A smartphone with signal app installed, if you have one. We also propose you to document the journey, so please try to bring a notebook to note some of your observations. Optionally, any device to document the journey : a camera to take some pictures and notes, and/or a sound recorder for vocal notes, and/or a video camera, etc. Any smartphone, for those who have one, may act as a camera, an audio recorder and usually incorporates a compass. Last but not least, please note that, because the workshop is outside, we encourage you to carefully choose clothes adapted to the weather. At the end of the tour, we will meet at AIA where we will compare notes and share our experiences. Limited places available, please register: welcome@weareaia.art

Schauspielhaus Zürich | Last performance of "Reigen"
After Arthur Schnitzler Staging: Yana Ross A coproduction with Salzburger Festspiele In "La Ronde", premiered in Berlin in 1920 to great scandal and forbidden by its own playwright to be performed until 1982, Arthur Schnitzler dissects the masks of a society. Long leading a double life as a physician and artist, he uses his literary psychology to examine the anatomy of the so-called “soul”. Underneath it all, sex always emerges, as Schnitzler’s model deals with pre- and post-coital conversations. In "La Ronde", prototypical figures of Viennese society make love in a kaleidoscope of ways that cut across classes, ages and genders, secretly uniting those who otherwise cannot come together in the publicly acceptable societal order. Triggerwarning: This production deals with sexist, misogynistic and homophobic violence that can be retraumatising (including the description of a rape and stalking). Among other topics, the play addresses war, and uses a weapon as a prop. Recommended age: 18 years and up. German with English subtitles.
