Rakus is a performative installation that features Mella Jaarsma’s trademark “body shelters”, which are wearable garments and structures with a symbolic significance. In this work, the garments take on the iconography of the figure of Rangda, the demon queen of Balinese mythology. Rangda, who represents the battle between good and evil, often appears in the Barong dance as a naked old woman with pendulous breasts and a long, protruding tongue.
The word “rakus” means greed. The work was born out of the artist’s frustration with existing power structures in Indonesia. Sticking out ones tongue as a facial gesture suggests exasperation, a feeling of frustration. Rakus is about greed and corruption exercised by those in power and the continuous social and economic exploitation that started with the Dutch colonialization in the 1600s. It is also a commentary on the erosion of tradition and ancestral knowledge.

Cosmic is our take on concerts aiming to fuse live bands or live acts with DJ sets, merging a classical concert setting with the fluidity of a party.
The June edition will welcome Swiss artists duo OSZILOT, Cevincia, Phuong Dan, IX4M, and an ambient room by Regula & Intersub.
OSZILOT is a mixture of sound installation and musical performance, consisting of oscillating everyday objects. The movements of these objects are translated into sound, generating shifting musical patterns. It is an ongoing experiment, in which basic pendulum physics meet digital sound synthesis.

The screening programme co-presented by Istituto Svizzero and Mousse is nourished by a reflection on the necessity of shared thinking across disciplines, institutions, and cultural practices, as much as by the friendship and consonance that unite the two curators, Barbara Casavecchia (writer, independent curator and educator) and Gioia Dal Molin (Head Curator and Artistic Director at Istituto Svizzero).
The question of doing things together - together? Yes, of course, together! - is also the thematic starting point for the video works of the 9 artists, who direct their gaze from the individual to the collective, from the ‘I’ to the ‘we’.
