In a society shaped by rules and conventions, it requires places that subvert everyday norms. Monster Chetwynd creates such a space in the Artists’ Bar of Cabaret Voltaire. She plays with masquerades, twists social rituals, diverts energies, creates hybrid beings, and juggles visual cultures from the Middle Ages to science fiction. The monstrous, the carnivalesque, and the grotesque are ever-present in her worlds and always associated with exaggeration, absurdity, horror, and humor. However, they are invariably committed to positivity.

Lee Scratch Perry profoundly influenced the development of Reggae, Ska, and Dub. His legendary studios in Kingston, Jamaica, and Einsiedeln, Switzerland, are globally renowned. However, Perry’s influence extends far beyond music. His body of work includes visual art such as costumes, totemic sculptures, and assemblages of language, film, painting, as well as everyday objects like CDs, mirrors, stones, and religious and pop-cultural images. He influenced not only music greats like Bob Marley or Keith Richards but also artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Salome Hohl, Director of Cabaret Voltaire, together with The Visual Estate of Lee Scratch Perry (Lorenzo Bernet and Valentina Ehnimb), will conduct a guided tour through Europe's first institutional exhibition of Lee Scratch Perry, accompanied by a Special Guest.

Before embarking on the "Journey to a Sacred Place" on Saturday, carnivalesque characters convene at the Historical Hall of Cabaret Voltaire, which has transformed into their tavern. Taking cues from the novel "The Castle of Crossed Destinies," they partake in diverse activities centered around tarot cards. Visitors have the option to observe or join in, all while indulging in refreshments available at the tavern bar.

Costumed travelers, inspired by Italo Calvino's "The Castle of Crossed Destinies," will promenade from Galerie Gregor Staiger at 3 PM, stopping at Kunsthaus at 3:30 PM and Helmhaus at 4 PM, before concluding their journey at Cabaret Voltaire at 5 PM. There, they can explore Monster Chetwynd's exhibition "Head-Less-Ness." Guests are welcome to join the "Journey to a Sacred Place" from the stop of their choice.
