WHAT IS HOME?
Art Walks led by Pauline Brämer, everyday at 11:15
In my tour, I will enhance the dialog about the place called ‘home’. I invite people to walk with me from Hardbrücke to Löwenbräu to connect different artistic positions with the proposed term and open up new perspectives on structural im/possibilities of home. We will see the paintings by Didier William at Galerie Peter Kilchmann to think further about the relationships of spaces and see the work by Ahlam Shibli at Luma Westbau, who investigates the notion of “Heimat”, their loss, and social strategies to process this loss within her artistic practices. While for some people it might be interesting to answer questions about their home as rather a physical or a spiritual place, for others these questions might be not easy to answer or difficult to think about. That’s why we will focus on the visual and sensory experience with the artistic works to develop an understanding for the art as well as for notions of home and belonging.
The tour will take two hours and I will give input as well as open up the space for dialog, to reflect individually or as a group and to discuss and exchange thoughts and emotions.
Biography: Pauline Brämer specialises in the intersection of art, politics and community, focusing on activist art, humour and exhibition-making as a form of counter-storytelling. She is a master’s student in Art Education/Curatorial Studies at ZHdK. She co-founded a collective and a cultural association in Kassel, her hometown, to support local culture alongside the international documenta exhibition. At documenta fifteen, she worked at ruruHaus, coordinating events and networks. The experience in Kassel has profoundly influenced her views on art and life. In Vienna she continued collective cultural work with kunst.wollen festival and was part of the project “Against Violence Against Women” with Caritas Vienna. Friendships are a great source of inspiration for her.

HOW TO PERFORM?
Art Walks led by Marc Bredemeier, everyday at 14:15
My art walk for the Zurich Art Weekend will focus on the multifaceted nature of performance, both in terms of how individuals navigate their roles within society and how societal structures themselves perform within the capitalist framework.
Through thoughtfully curated experiences, participants will be invited to explore the performative aspects of human behaviour, considering how we enact our identities and roles in various social contexts. Additionally, your walk will delve into the ways in which capitalism commodifies performance, often shaping individuals’ self-concepts and driving them to perform within prescribed roles for economic gain.
By engaging with these themes, my art walk will challenge participants to reflect on the relationship between performance and capitalism, and how these dynamics influence our daily lives. Through interactive installations, immersive experiences, and thought-provoking discussions, our walk will serve as a catalyst for deeper understanding and dialogue about the intersections of performance, society, and economics.
Biography: Marc Bredemeier’s aesthetic practice combines art, design, mediation and their curation. He focuses on community-building aspects. One of the motives of his practice is to question processes of (re)production and their (re)presentation. “In my own longing for creating inclusive (safer) spaces, the questions arise: What expectations will be taken forward and which hierarchies will emerge, get re-presented or re-produced again? What are we taking with us? Notions of our futures are of great value: what we think today determines how we live tomorrow…”
