Andrea Büttner’s new exhibition, Andrea Büttner Works, explores the multifaceted and societal meanings of work from various perspectives. Through a range of artistic mediums, including woodcuts, etchings, books, glass objects, video installations, and textiles, Büttner engages with themes such as labor, poverty, shame, and community. Her work continuously connects these themes to art-historical and socio-political contexts, drawing inspiration from Western conceptual artists like Walter De Maria.

The exhibition brings together both new and existing works that delve into the visibility and invisibility of labor, social hierarchies, and the relationship between art production and economic conditions. Büttner’s art provides an insightful exploration of physical work, precariousness, value creation, and the intersection of craftsmanship and artistic practice.

Curated by Maja Wismer, Head of Contemporary Art at Kunstmuseum Basel, this exhibition offers a deep reflection on societal structures shaped by both religious and secular belief systems.
