At the Collegium Helveticum, artist-researcher Denise Bertschi presents a site-specific video and textile installation that unravels the intertwined histories of dye chemistry and photographic chemistry. Engaging with ETH Zurich’s institutional narrative, her work traces the industrial and colonial entanglements of these chemical processes during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Through material, architectural, and visual remnants, Bertschi exposes a network of connections between scientific knowledge, industrialization, and globalization—illuminating the ways in which chemistry shaped both artistic and geopolitical landscapes.

This exhibition of contemporary photography highlights construction sites as an ephemeral and often neglected stage in the documentation of the built environment. Curated by Reto Geiser, the installation at the Sonnenturm presents the work of four exceptional contemporary photographers—Tibor Bielicky, Stefano Graziani, Marianne Mueller, and David K. Ross—to reflect building sites as indicators of cultural, geographic, and economic conditions of a particular time.
