Warhol/Cutrone, curated by James Hedges, presents Andy Warhol and Ronnie Cutrone, his right-hand man, studio assistant and collaborator, who were the masters of Manhattan in the 1970s and 1980s. The exhibition highlights not only Warhol’s cultural dominance vis-à-vis his photography but also Ronnie Cutrone’s celebrated post-Pop cartoon-infused oeuvre. Cutrone played a central role in the production of Warhol’s silkscreens and paintings during this period, contributing both technical experimentation and conceptual ideas, essential to Warhol’s series such as the Oxidation Paintings, Shadows, Ladies & Gentlemen, and Hammer & Sickles. After leaving the Factory, Cutrone emerged as a defining voice of the 1980s “Post-Pop” movement, gaining international acclaim and early solo exhibitions with Tony Shafrazi Gallery, Lucio Amelio and Saatchi & Saatchi.
