Suzanne Duchamp (1889 – 1963) left behind a dazzling body of work that has found its way into some of the world’s most famous collections but is still known only to specialists. The sister of Marcel Duchamp was in the vanguard of her times and influenced art history as an exceptional Dada artist. For reasons unknown, she abruptly turned her back on Dada in 1922 in favour of overtly figurative painting. Over the next 30 years, Duchamp created paintings that covered a wide range of motifs and revealed a bold use of pigment and drawing as a structural device. In surreal circles she was aptly described as a ‘semi-abstract painter’.

Sat, June 14, 10:00 – 18:00
Sun, June 15, 10:00 – 18:00

Gibson’s multi-panel intervention will combine painting, screen-printing, beadwork, ceramics, and textiles in an accumulation of works that form a backdrop for performative interventions inspired by non-Western storytelling traditions. Gibson’s collaborative activations reject the tradition of Indigenous people and objects being turned into public spectacles. His installations create and claim space for radical inclusivity, empathy, and catharsis.
