The exhibition Caring for Naturecultures: Glaciers reconceives conservation as a practice of care spanning natural and cultural environments. Focusing on Alpine glaciers through an artistic lens, it presents them as “conservation objects” shaped by science, climate anxiety, and intervention, while also framing them as natureculture hybrids. Glaciers appear as living archives, preserving traces of human and planetary histories. The exhibition invites reflection on care in times of irreversible change, asking how conservation adapts when its subjects are unstable, melting, and alive.

Across the globe, conservation confronts phenomena—melting glaciers as heritage, colonial landscapes, and ecologically embedded artworks—that exceed disciplinary boundaries. Responding to this structural divide, the symposium frames conservation as a cross-domain practice of care, asking what it means to care for cultural and natural worlds as entangled rather than separate. Spanning speculative ecologies, fossils, taxidermy, land art, architecture, and glaciology, the program explores natureculture hybrids as sites of knowledge and responsibility, culminating in a roundtable on conservation’s role under planetary conditions.
