Sommer Salon Zurich presents How Come a Butterfly Flies, Ronit Porat’s first presentation in Switzerland. Bringing together works from recent and earlier years, the exhibition traces her exploration of transformation, fragility, and the instability of historical narratives.

Rooted in a sustained engagement with images circulating in Europe during the 1920s and 1930s, Porat revisits historical episodes to draw out marginal or suppressed narratives, reanimating them through a contemporary lens. Working with found and archival materials, she reconfigures her sources through layering, digital intervention, and re-staging.

Her works operate between documentation and fiction, probing how images shape—and unsettle—memory. What emerges is a vision of a Europe marked by internal tension and instability, leaving the viewer with a lingering sense of unease.
